Frequently Asked
Ashen Throne FAQ
Honest answers to the questions we get most.
What is Ashen Throne?
Ashen Throne is a post-apocalyptic strategy MMO. Mobile Crawler base, alliance warfare, fog-of-war extraction, persistent sieges, and a player-run economy. You build a mobile Crawler base on the safe Frontier, push into the fog-shrouded Wastes for rare loot, and coordinate alliance sieges on the Citadel — a four-district endgame fortress where the winning alliance leader becomes king. Three weapon classes — Kinetic, Electric, Psionic — lock into a counter triangle where composition decides combat over raw army size.
Is Ashen Throne like Rise of Kingdoms?
Yes at its foundation. Ashen Throne shares the alliance-warfare, base-building, troop-training core loop with Rise of Kingdoms. The differences are fog-of-war extraction PvE in the Wastes (proximity detection, 80% loot drop on death), a counter-triangle combat system where composition decides combat over size, persistent four-district Citadel siege as endgame, a player-run economy, and opt-in NFT ownership of rare assets.
Is Ashen Throne pay-to-win?
No. Ashen Throne is pay-to-accelerate, never pay-to-win. Speedups reduce timers. Card packs improve odds. Every commander, every cosmetic, every rare loot item is reachable through gameplay. A free-to-play composition running the right counter beats a top-spender comp running the wrong one. We've designed the systems to enforce this and we test it continuously.
How do I get an alpha invite?
Alpha invites are released weekly in our Discord. Join discord.gg/jFzuudb8Aa, follow the alpha-invites channel, and grab a code when they drop. Codes redeem at play.ashenthr.one.
What platforms does Ashen Throne run on?
Ashen Throne runs in any modern desktop browser at play.ashenthr.one. Mobile browsers are supported. Native mobile app distribution is being evaluated.
What is the Frontier?
The Frontier is the safe zone where new players start and veterans return to recover. Resources gather automatically from buildings. Your shield protects you from attack. NPC camps are available for PvE combat, loot, and commander XP. Marketplace and alliance features are available. Nothing in the Frontier can be lost to other players. It's slower progression than the Wastes, but it's reliable.
What are the Wastes?
The Wastes are the high-risk, high-reward area outside the Frontier. They're covered in fog of war — you can't see what you're not next to. Better resource nodes, scavenging sites with rare loot, higher-tier NPC camps, and other players are all in the Wastes. Your Crawler must physically move into the Wastes to interact with anything in them. If your army is destroyed in the Wastes, you drop up to 80% of carried loot and your Crawler returns to the Frontier.
How does combat work?
Combat is auto-resolved based on three layers: the counter triangle (Kinetic > Psionic > Electric > Kinetic), tier suppression (a Tactician commander can let a T1 underdog fight a T2 opponent), and 6-slot formation placement (front-row units protect back-row). Composition decides combat. A 500-troop counter-comp beats a 300-troop wrong-comp every time.
What is the Citadel?
The Citadel is the endgame fortress. Four districts, persistent control, real alliance politics. Alliances coordinate siege rallies — multiple marches, real-time chat, rally timing, garrison management. Hold a district long enough and the throne room. Hold the throne room and your alliance leader becomes the king. The king sets the tax.
Are the NFTs required?
No. NFT export is opt-in and invisible to players who don't care. There is no token economy, no play-to-earn grind, and no requirement to mint or hold anything. Gameplay comes first; ownership is a layer on top. The Asset Vault UI in the alpha shows the export pipeline for transparency, but you can play the entire game without ever touching it.
Is Ashen Throne free to play?
Yes. Ashen Throne is free to play. There is no upfront cost. The alpha is invite-only — you need a code to redeem at play.ashenthr.one — but the codes themselves are free.
How is Ashen Throne different from Call of Dragons?
Call of Dragons is Rise of Kingdoms with a fantasy coat of paint, behemoths, and flying units, keeping the same monetization. Ashen Throne layers fog-of-war extraction in the Wastes, a counter-triangle combat system, persistent Citadel sieges, and a player-driven economy on top of similar alliance-warfare bones. CoD bets on hero-collection and visual drama; Ashen Throne bets on tactical decisions and player ownership.
Is Ashen Throne an indie game?
Yes. Ashen Throne is an independent project currently in invite-only alpha. We ship publicly, post patch notes openly, and talk to players like adults.
